The Marxist 'Gender Pay Gap' - Class Struggle Meets Gender Struggle: Females Earn More Than Their Equally Matched Male Counterparts
"The authors find that marriage and children often influence several
of the relevant economic factors that affect wage determination
between the sexes, such as experience and tenure, years and type of
education, hours of work, and industry and occupation. As a result, a
statistical pay "gap" between the sexes can be found, which is wrongly
used by activists as evidence of workplace discrimination."1
"Citing misleading statistics to incite women and make them feel
victimized does not do justice to the real debate: how to help working
women better balance work and family."2 - Anita Hattiangadi
What Have They Done To My Pay, Ma
What Have They Done To My Pay, Ma
One of the more imbecilic Marxist-inspired disinformation operations - mounted to promote gender unrest in society - informs us that employers pay men more than they have to, consequently paying women less than they should be receiving, resulting in the ‘gender pay gap‘. Now when the ‘gender pay gap’ is conceptualized by the observation that employers pay men more than they have to, suddenly the ‘gender pay gap’ lie becomes clearly observable. Of course employers don’t pay men more than they have to, consequently employers don’t pay women less than they should be receiving. And as irony would have it, females even earn more than males.
Simple regression analysis brings the ‘gender pay gap’ down from 77 cents on the dollar to 5 cents on the dollar. In 2007 The American Association for University Women (AAUW) published a regression analysis study looking at full-time employment pay for men and women one year after graduation from university. The study found:
"Overall, the regression analysis of earnings one year after graduation
suggests that a 5 percent pay gap between women and men remains
after accounting for all variables known to affect earnings. Women
who choose male-dominated occupations appear to earn more than
do other women. Undergraduate majors in business and management,
engineering, health professions, or public affairs and social services
enhance both women's and men's earnings."
Children Matter...To Real, non-Marxist, Women
Not included in the AAUW study are the variables 'children' and 'living alone'. When those variables are included in the regression analysis, men and women between the age of twenty-one and thirty-five without children, the 'gender pay gap' is under 3 percent and there is no pay gap for full-time workers between the age of twenty-one and thirty-five living alone. The less than 3 percent difference in pay between the two groups is due to those women in the first category planning to have children in the future, and therefore accordingly choosing occupations that are (1) less demanding of time spent at the workplace; and (2) easier to transition back to when the child is in school:
"Data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth show that among
people age 27-33 who have never had children, the gender pay gap is
only 2 percent. Finally, new tabulations by the Employment Policy
Foundation show that the pay gap is 5 percent for part-time workers
age 21-35 without children, under 3 percent for full-time workers age
21-35 without children, and that there is no pay gap for full-time
workers age 21-35 living alone."3
In fact, as early as 1971 "...single women who had worked each year since leaving school earned slightly more than single men."4
Economist Anita U. Hattiangadi finds that women tend to discount full-time work for the prospective psychic value that marriage and motherhood offers:
"In 1975, the average working women had worked 57 percent as many
years of full-time work as the average working man had. By 1987, the
percentage was up to 73 percent. These differences reflect that women
are still more likely than men to reduce work hours or leave the labor
force for children, child rearing, and other family responsibilities."5
'Gender Pay Gap', May I Introduce You To 'Supply & Demand'
If indeed women's pay were discounted by 23%, we would witness employers discriminating against the more expensive male labor force in favor of the greatly less inexpensive female labor force, such discrimination showing up in persistently significant higher unemployment rates for males, but Bureau of Labor Statistics shows no such persistently significant higher unemployment numbers for either sex.
The absurdity of the ‘gender pay gap’ is clearly manifested not only by regression analysis, but also by rudimentary economic scientific reasoning. In order to accept as true a 'gender pay gap', we also have to accept as true the ludicrous proposition that HR departments pay male employees more than they have to! We also have to accept as true the equally ludicrous proposition that employers have no incentive to give persistently preferential - discriminatory - employment to lower-cost females!
Pricing Women Out Of The Labor Market...Have A Nice Day!
Marxist schemes such as ‘pay equity’ are designed to promote social chaos, not unlike the 'welfare' scheme Aid to Families with Dependent Children, which should be named Aid to Expel Fathers from Families, the loss of the father’s socialization on the child creating societal dysfunction. The chaos caused by ’pay equity’ would be to price women out of the labor market, culminating in an underground labor market for women.
