It was thanks to the conquest of the continent by the British that finally  slavery and tribal wars  were abolished. The last battle between Indians and non-Indians took place on December 29, 1890 -  Battle of Wounded Knee  - and since then the United States has enjoyed a Pax Americana, where any Indian can traverse the land without fear of being  killed or taken as a slave .
